3 ways to maintain your blog this summer

It’s been a scorcher this summer here in North Alabama!  Near record-breaking temperatures and, until the past few days, absolutely no rain.  We’ve been miserably hot and, I have to confess, the heat renders me basically useless.  I just want to sit around drinking sweet tea and yearning for autumn and the start of sweater season.

Maybe you can relate?

Grab your glass of tea and look over these three ways to maintain your blog, all while you sit in the air conditioned comfort of your home.

  1. Checking Up—Make sure you have the latest WordPress update and that all your plug-ins are up-to-date.  This is one of the easiest ways to protect your blog and, if you do it regularly, only takes a little bit of time.  Our recommendation, schedule this on your calendar once a month.
  2. Cleaning Up—Speaking of plug-ins, now would be a great time to check and make sure you’ve deleted the ones you don’t use.  Sometimes we install plug-ins and then end up not using them.  They just sit there, deactivated.  Go ahead and delete them!  Also, summer is a great time to clean up categories and tags, especially if you are like me and posting less often.
  3. Backing Up—Here’s the biggie!  Have you backed up your blog ever lately?  It’s a great idea to schedule regular back ups for your blog.  We recommend the resources in WordPress Support to guide you in the back up process.  Wondering how often you should back up?  We suggest once a month for most bloggers.

There you go, three ways to do some simple maintenance on your blog while you’re sweltering in the heat this summer.

Now for the big question:  When was the last time you did any of these?

P.S. That adorable dog in the image above?  Yeah, he’s my Basset.  Pretty dog-gone cute, huh?
